CoatBot is a robotics system customized by Transforma Robotics for the industrial client to automate the fire-proof coating of various huge steel structures (e.g., I-beam and hollow sections), reducing the dependency on foreign workers, material wastage and hence the long-term operational cost.

As a robotics software engineer on this fire-proof coating project, I was responsible for designing the overall solution, planning the architecture, and implementing the algorithms. I worked closely with the software team lead, mechanical team lead and CTO to define the requirements for the system and then designed a solution that met those requirements. The system was a robotic manipulator with 8 degrees of freedom with a behavior tree structure to control the system, which allowed it to react to different situations flexibly and efficiently.
